I thought we would make feeding the seahorses easier and more effective. For a while we have feed them out of a net. This takes a while and many of the resident ghost shrimp will steal the brine before the seahorse get a chance to eat. So I came up with an idea of a feeding corral. Since the seahorses do not fear anything we put in the tank, I thought we could train them to enter the corral close the door and let them take there time eating.
Here is the basic design:
Since this was a test corral, we used aquarium silicone to glue the acrylic. It worked out good, but it does not hold water…. But that’s not a problem, just as long as the brine can not get out.
Lucy out hunting just before we put the feeding corral in the tank. They where both very eager to get in to the corral and strap on the old feed bag. Both Lucy and Lois ate all the brine leaving a few dead ones on the bottom of the corral. I was surprise how long it took them to eat one serving, about 45 minutes.
